Out with the old and in with the new, 2002 is now but a dissident
memory but one still leaving us with ringing ears and hot
flushes. Last year saw the unheralded resurgence in garage
rock and raw blues that confirmed the Detroit 2-piece the
White Stripes as saviours of guitar assaults and allowed a
takeover of live theatre by our very own cow-cockies from
middle Middle Earth in the form of the Datsuns and the D4.
Suddenly everyone wants a piece of Godzone and it all helps
when the likes of our friends over the ditch, the Vines, include
large portions of mental health derailment in to the soup
kitchen of rock depravity.
So after years of break beats and chill out, simple ole rawk’n’roll
has returned to reflect that in a World threatened by viruses
and war that all we want is to keep it real. We can still
find time to turn down the lights and fiddle with our knobs
for some electronic groove but nothing makes the beat like
the sound of crashing drums and a bass guitar through your
amp, ala Dolf and his de Datsuns. We at RedQuarters are more
than happy with that, even if it means our 15minutes of glory
is over before we know it.
