History of The Tidy
The Tidy golf tours began back in 1996 (then known as the
Raymond Tidy) when eight thirty-something kiwis ventured off
to Scotland to play golf at St Andrews. They had so much fun
not only on the golf course but in the local bars and nightclubs
of the places they visited, they decided to make it a regular
event and it has been contested annually by a hardy bunch
of try hard golfers ever since.
The four day tournament format has become well known as a
physical and psychological war of attrition. Venues have included
Scotland, Ireland , Portugal, Spain and France. Only two Foundation
committee members have withstood the demands of the 8 previous
Tidys but a number of veterans and rookies alike have taken
on the ultimate golfing challenge: 3 sleepless nights, the
dangers of local substance, attacks of the yips and general
physical fatigue caused by 4 days of long ball hunting expeditions
in the rough.
The Tournament is named in honour of Lance Corporal Raymond
Tidy of the NZ army and Rongotai old boy. Long may this proud
tradition continue in the finest of golfing destinations..
